- The first step is to take a visual assessment of the attic. Head up there and take a look around at the floor joists. Can you see the tops of the joists? If so, it means you don’t have enough insulation.
- Next, take a tape measure and find out how thick the level of insulation is. If it’s 3 inches or less, you need to add more.
- Take a photo of the insulation level on the tape measure for your records.
- Add 4-6 more inches of insulation. You can use fiberglass batts, cellulose, or just about any other type of insulation.
- Keep in mind that you’ll want to use R38 to R49 insulation in your attic in our area for best results.
