What You Need To Do Before Turning Your A/C On The For The Season

During the winter months it often seems like the cold weather is never going to subside. But spring will come sooner or later and bring with it warmer temperatures. That means air conditioning season is right around the corner and we strongly encourage you to inspect your system before the first warm day of the year.

There are however, a number of things you should do before flipping the switch. Making sure you get these things done will help you identify current issues as well as protect you from encountering problems when you need your air conditioner most:

Check The Condenser

There is a condenser fan that is located on the outside of your home or office. Be sure to remove any wrapping or covers you used to cover the system for the winter and remove the grill from the exterior.

Use a soft brush or cloth to clean the blades and remove any debris (like leaves, grass or dirt) that has gotten into the unit. There are also condenser coils located in this same spot and those should be cleaned and inspected as well.

Coolant Lines

Coolant lines are what helps the air inside of your unit become cooler and these lines need to be inspected for any signs of damage or leaks. You want to look for any crimping in the lines, cracks, etc.

But be careful with this task. These lines are very sensitive and manipulating them too much can cause them to crack. If you do find something wrong have a professional HVAC specialist come out and take care of the repair for you so it is done right the first time and you will be able to rely on your unit all summer long.

Filter

Make sure you change the filter to prevent particles like dust, dander, mold spores, etc. from entering the indoor air that you are breathing. It will also keep your ducts clean.

Before you turn on your central air conditioning unit this year, make sure that you do some prep work ahead of time whether this is the first time you are using your newly installed unit or you have been using it for multiple years now.
