Temperatures in our region are finally getting warmer. Caring for your A/C system in the coming weeks is the best way to ensure a cool and comfortable summer. Here are three simple tips for air conditioning maintenance:

1. Change and/or clean filters

If your air conditioning system uses disposable filters found in stores, they need to be changed once a month. Permanent filters need to be cleaned as well. Take note of just how dirty the filter is. If you notice more dust, dirt and debris than usual, it may be time to clean your air ducts.

2. Adjust the settings on your thermostatadjusting the thermostat
It’s time to flip the switch on your thermostat from heating to cooling. Be sure that your thermostat is set to “fan on” mode when you’re trying to cool the house. This ensures that air is always being moved, and prevents hot and cold pockets from forming.

3. Clean up around your air conditioning unit

Shrubs, weeds and other plants that have sprung up around your air conditioner need to be trimmed. Aim for at least two feet of clearance around the unit. Failing to do so could negatively impact how much outside air can be taken in by the unit.
