Pre-Summer Vacation Air Conditioning Tips

Pre-Summer Vacation Air Conditioning Tips

With summer in full swing it's the perfect time to get away for a quick weekend or take that well-deserved week off to travel. In this blog we will provide you with some tips for before you leave for vacation. As important as it is for you to take a break once in a while, it's important that your HVAC system takes a break too.

Turn up the thermostat. If you have a programmable thermostat, set it four degrees higher than what you normally set it to when you're home. If you set it higher than four degrees, you most likely will spend what you save trying to cool it back down. Additionally if you set the temperature too high you can even damage to your walls; excess heat and humidity can weaken the compounds in your sheetrock.

Replace your thermostat. Many newer thermostat systems give you the capability to change your home's temperature remotely with apps on your smartphone. So if you forget to raise the thermostat while running out, you can now have the option to raise it while you're away.

Close your blinds and curtains. This provides an extra layer between the sun and the air inside your home. Before you leave, close the blinds and curtains to ensure that your home will maintain a steady temperature while you're away. It also provides an additional safety bonus of making sure that people don't know your home is vacant.
