Natural Ways to Deal with Humidity

Natural Ways to Deal with Humidity

Excess indoor humidity is not only uncomfortable, but it also can lead to mold growth. Ideally, your home's humidity should be below 50 percent. If it's not, here's how to deal with it naturally:

1. Add ventilation

Even a simple cross breeze can increase air flow and help decrease humidity. Have excess humidity in your bathroom or kitchen? Consider installing a fan that vents outside.

2. Fix leaks

Leaky pipes allow moisture into your home, which can contribute to a humidity problem. Get them fixed immediately.

3. Change your routine

A long, hot shower can be relaxing, but all that steam increases humidity. Try to shower only when the air is dry. You can also limit the amount of humidity release into your home by taking shorter showers.

4. Buy a dehumidifier

Rusk Heating & Cooling can assess your home's humidity needs and design a year-round solution. This includes an inspection of your water lines and drains, calcium removal and cleaning, and new equipment installation.
