Prepping Your Home For Vacation

Grab your bathing suit. Grab the sunscreen and don't forget a towel. We could all use a little vacation to clear our minds and relax on a beach in the warm sun. But before you pack your bags for your summer getaway, there are a few things you should do to prepare your home for your absence.
  1. Don't turn off the air conditioner. If you do, it will have to work extra hard to cool down the house once your return home which can lead to some major problems. Instead of turning it off, simply raise the temperature 5-10° so you can save energy without allowing your home to get too hot while you're gone.
  2. Check the air filter before you leave. Even if you cleaned it recently, it can't hurt to make sure it's clear of dirt and dust. If it gets clogged and causes your air conditioning system to malfunction while you're away, you could be in for a not-so-pleasant surprise when you return home.
  3. If your thermostat takes batteries, be sure to check them. We also recommend closing the shades or blinds on windows near the thermostat. The sun's penetrating rays can trick your thermostat into thinking the house is warmer than it actually is.
We want you to enjoy your vacation without worrying about your cooling system. Should you encounter any sort of problems this summer, we'll be there to help! Just give the experts at Rusk Heating & Cooling a call at (859) 405-0414 to schedule an appointment.
