Baking soda is one of the most inexpensive and underrated items everyone should keep a steady supply of in their homes. Volumes have been written about the numerous tips and tricks it can provide, and here are just a few, brought to you by Rusk Heating & Cooling.

  • Odor and dirt removal:

Baking soda is excellent as a non-toxic and gentle cleanser and odor remover. For stubborn stains and food stuck to plates or pots, mix a small amount with some water, let sit and easily scrub off without abrasion, scratching or irritating odor.

  • Clear slow drains and maintain pipes:

Baking soda combined with vinegar will clean pipes and open pesky slow drains leading to more efficiency in household utility. Simply place one cup of baking soda down the slow drain with a cup of vinegar. Let sit 10 minutes then flush with boiling water. Do periodically to clean pipes naturally and without caustic substances.

  • DIY bath bombs:

Use baking soda and essential oils, mix to form pellets which you can bake in the oven to form your own “bath bombs” great for your self or as gifts.

  • DIY Air Freshener:

Place /3 cup baking soda in a jar with 10-15 drops of your favorite essential oil. Cover with a cloth, and secure the cloth cover with string or ribbon. Voila, your custom made air freshener.

  • Fresh Breath

Mix 1 tsp of baking soda in a glass of water. Swish it around and spit. It neutralizes odors!

  • Heartburn Relief

Baking soda works as an antacid.

  • Floor Cleaner

It works great as a floor cleaner. Baking soda and a bucket of warm water.

  • Freshen Up Pantries, Fridges, or Closets

There are boxes of baking soda that are made specifically to sit open in open spaces that will absorb odors. You can also just keep an open box in the fridge, closet, or pantry.

  • Keep Flowers Alive Longer

Adding a spoonful of powder to the water of your flowers will keep them fresher longer.
