Here at Rusk Heating & Cooling, your comfort is our specialty. Your air conditioning system can’t keep you comfortable if it’s too big or too small.
If it seems like your AC is constantly running but barely cooling, then it’s possible that it’s not the proper size. Having said that, here are some tips for choosing the right size air conditioner:
Single room air conditioners
Measure the square footage of your room by multiplying its length by its width. If it’s a triangle-shaped room, you’ll have to multiply length by width, and then divide by 2. Keep in mind that other factors — like heat from the sun — will also affect the cooling capacity for your home.
Central air conditioning
Every room’s square footage needs to be considered when thinking about central air. Exclude any areas that don’t need to be cooled — like a basement or sun room. If you are having trouble doing the math, refer to your property tax statement, which will likely report on your home’s square footage.
Once you’ve gathered your measurements, determine how many BTUs are required for the space you’d like to cool. Refer to this guide for assistance.
