It’s hard to relax when your air conditioner is making funny noises. But, more importantly, a noisy A/C could indicate a serious problem. Below, we take a closer look:
This is more common than you think. Fasteners within your air conditioning unit can break loose and rattle around. Tighten all screws and bolts, and remove the cover to check inside for loose pieces.
2. Hissing noise
If a hissing or whistling noise is coming from your air conditioner, then it’s probably due to loose seals. Check the seams around your ductwork for bad connections, and re-caulk as necessary.
3. Howling noise
The motor within your air conditioning unit uses belts, which can wear out over time. When this happens, you might hear an unpleasant screeching sound. Easy fix! Simply replace the old belt.
4. Banging noise
This probably means a piece has come loose and is attached to your motor. As the motor turns, the piece will spin along with it, banging against whatever is in its path. You’ll have to take off the cover plate to get a good look inside.
